Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin was
born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis Tennessee. Most people know her as the ìQueen
of Soulî or the ìLady of Soulî who sang ìRespect.î She sang all songs
beautifully with her Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano voice. She had many influences
throughout her signing career. Her father and her two sisters Carolyn and Erma
were her earliest influences. Arethaís father was a gospel singer and as a
child Aretha and her sisters sang at his church. At the age of 14 she made her
first recording. She was discovered by R&B legend John Hammond and signed
with Columbia Records in 1961. In 1968 Aretha won eight successive Grammy
Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performances and then in 1980 she added
three mare awards in this category. She had 4 top hit songs, ìRespect,î ìChain
of Fools,î îYou make me feel like a Natural Womenî and ìFreeway of Love.î Freeway of Love was Arethaís last hit
song that was recorded in 1985. In 2001 the Michigan Womenís Hall of Fame
inducted Aretha in. My favorite song from Aretha Franklin is ìRespectî because
it has a nice beat, a nice rhythm and it just makes you want to get up and
dance. I think that all of Aretha Franklinís song has a message in it and
something to learn.
