1. Objective: Perform and maintain steady-beat patterns that include rests and accent the
first beat of each measure; to review locating Dıs on the keyboard and
focus primarily on D next to middle C
2. Purpose: To reinforce the understanding of the steady-beat concept, Lesson 4, in Unit
1 - Rhythm.
3. Materials:
- Keyboard Lab
- CD player
- Overhead Projector
- Rag Mop, CD 1-7
- Alfredıs Interactive Musician
4. Anticipatory Set: The recording of Rag Mop is playing as students enter classroom.
5. Procedure: a)
- Students will listen to the recording of Rag Mop.
- Is the beat steady or unsteady?
- Students will Stomp-clap the steady beat.
- On which beat does the strong beat fall?
b)
- Students will read and follow directions for playing Rhythm Game (see
below) on overhead screen.
- A sufficient amount of time will be allocated for students to work
through each pattern.
- Students are paired in groups of 2 and assigned a rhythm pattern from
the Rhythm Game.
c)
- Using Alfredıs Interactive Musician students will do a quick review of
locating Dıs on the keyboard.
- Playing D next to middle C, students will practice the assigned rhythm
pattern with partner.
6. Check For Student Understanding:
- Each group will perform its assigned pattern on D next to middle C.
7. Closure: Groups will perform assigned rhythm patterns simultaneously.
8. Extension: Resume lesson on the steady beat; students will switch parts from the
Rhythm Game. Locate Eıs on the keyboard.
